May Mom of the Month

Our mom of the month program honors moms for their efforts to lead healthy lifestyles, and gives us a chance to get to know them better at the same time!

May's featured "Mom of the Month" is: Liz Fulton

Congrats Liz!

Liz has been a Stroller Strides member for the past year, and works out weekly with our Durham moms at Southpoint and Herndon Park. Liz has been such a wonderful addition to our Stroller Strides family.  Her laughter is hard not to join in with and make you feel like she was your friend from the first "hello". It's certainly easy to see why Cole is so full of life and why he is so generous with the high fives.  Liz is a great mom and it has been such a joy to see her family embark on a new chapter when we all get to meet Baby Boy Fulton very soon!!  Please join us in congratulating Liz and read on to get to know her a little better!

Hometown:

Troy, Ohio

Current part of the Triangle that you live in:

Durham

Education:

I am a Virginia Tech grad (2007) and majored in Communications

Stroller Strides Member since:

June (I think??) 2013

Members of your Family:

My husband is Michael, 2 year old son Cole, and our dogs Daisy and

Gryffin. Son #2 is coming in June!

Tell us about your children:

Cole turned 2 in April and is a happy rambunctious toddler. He loves everything with wheels, especially Thomas the train, and running as much as he can!

Current/previous Career:

I worked at CA Technologies doing communications for the support team. Customer letters, newsletters, presentations, etc.

What was your childhood ambition?

To be a teacher

What does motherhood mean to you?

Motherhood is the career I was always meant to have. It is challenging, yet fun at the same time. I didn’t know how much love I would feel until I became a mother and it is extremely rewarding for me.

What is the furthest you have been from home?

Hawaii

What has Stroller Strides or meant to you?

When first joining Stroller Strides it was about being able to exercise without finding childcare for Cole. It’s still a good workout, but now it’s more about being part of a community of supportive moms. I have gained so much from the friends I’ve made through this group!

What is your favorite exercise?

Wall sits, not because I love them, but because I feel the burn afterwards so I know it’s working on something!

What is your proudest moment?

Running a marathon when Cole was only 11 months old

What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)?

Watching movies, baking, and photography

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you

unique.

Before we were parents, in 2008 we hosted an 8 year old girl from

Minsk, Belarus for a summer in the Children of Chernobyl program through

our church. We have stayed in touch with her family and occasionally send

messages to them through facebook.

If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would

they say?

I thought it would be easiest to ask him! He says, “You are a real

person, never fake. You are the most unselfish person I know, everything

you say and do always has everyone else’s best interest in mind. And you

are a very classy person.”

What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape?

Just start small! Getting back into shape doesn’t happen quickly, but if

you make it a priority in your life, it will come! Surround yourself with

positive influences who know your goals and will be supportive of them.
